    紫苞舌蘭（Spathoglottis plicata）又名紅頭苞舌蘭、蘭嶼紫蘭，苞蛇蘭屬名前段spathe 在希臘語是湯匙的意思，後半段glottis是舌狀的意思，表示其舌瓣形狀像湯匙。本種廣泛分佈於南太平洋地區及諸島嶼，在台灣則只分佈於東部離島蘭嶼，1907年日人川上瀧瀰和森丑之助共同採集於蘭嶼，後經早田文藏鑑定為Spathoglottis plicata，為台灣最早之採集記錄，在泰國及馬來西亞等地是相當普遍之庭園植物，也有不少花色豐富之後代出現，它的花屬無限花序，花期有時甚可長達半年之久。
